Botox and Fillers Q & A

What are Botox® and fillers?

Botox injections temporarily prevent muscle movement. Botox injections is a non-surgical treatment given in the office. The primary use of Botox is to reduce facial wrinkles, but it can also reduce migraines, calm an overactive bladder, treat neck spasms, and relieve excessive sweating.

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin to temporarily add volume to areas that have become thinner with age. Filler materials include several natural substances.

What are the cosmetic uses of Botox and fillers?

Botox and dermal fillers treatments are minimally invasive and safe procedures. Cosmetically, Dr. Mehta uses Botox injections to treat frown lines, wrinkles on the forehead between the eyes, and the crow’s feet around the eyes. Fillers typically treat lips, the area around the mouth, and cheeks.

Are Botox and fillers safe?

Like all medical treatments, Botox and dermal fillers have the potential for some minor side effects. In rare cases, both Botox and fillers could result in allergic reactions like difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers are FDA-approved treatments. Botox is meant for moderate to severe frown lines in adults, while dermal fillers are FDA approved for specific uses in adults over age 22, including:

  • Increasing fullness of cheeks, lips, chin, hollows under the eyes, jawline, and hands
  • Improving the appearance of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and skin folds
  • Fixing acne scars on cheeks
  • Restoring facial fat loss in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

After Botox treatment, avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas as it could cause Botox to spread to other areas in your body. Also, avoid lying down or bending over for at least four hours after treatment to prevent Botox from causing eyelid droop.

Are results from Botox and fillers immediate?

There is little to no downtime after a Botox or dermal filler treatment, but results typically don’t occur until 1-2 days after treatment. The results of Botox and fillers last about four months, and you can repeat treatments to maintain your look.

If you’re unhappy with your appearance and want to reduce frown lines, crow’s feet, or add some volume back into thinning areas of your face, call Dr. Mehta today or schedule an appointment online.
